The newest comedy play is really two comedy plays at Pintello Comedy Theater. For the first time the popular Gilroy Theater will present two one-act plays. “Each is about an hour long, with an intermission between; we think our audiences will be twice as entertained!” said Rod Pintello, director.
The first act, called “At the Beep” takes place entirely on the telephones or answering machines of Mary Elizabeth Chase and Skip Allen, and covers their lives and relationships from age eight. They’re bright and silly, clever and touching, by turns.
In the second act, the Pintellos present a seemingly simple story of girl-meets-boy. But the girl has a “narrator,” a voice in her head to help her make decisions. Unfortunately the girl and her narrator don’t always agree, which makes for some ingenious manipulations between the girl, boy, narrator, and the unexpected visitor who really throws a wrench in the works!
As always, Rod and Marion have mixed new faces with familiar faces. Performers include Alika Spencer, most recently playing the dancing sister Essie in “You Can’t Take It With You” in Morgan Hill. Director Rod Pintello says, “We think we’ve found the perfect role to introduce this talented actress to our stage. The play is lead by two experienced actors, loved by South County audiences in various venues. Whitney Pintello McClelland stays active in the family theater enterprise, most recently directing “Pump Boys and Dinettes.” Kevin Heath comes back to the boards after leading a double life as “A Gentleman and A Scoundrel.” These two have played opposite each other in several plays at Pintello Comedy Theater, always with hilarious results. The newest face on this stage is Charley Gilmore. Returning to the local stage after a long hiatus, Charley follows a line of relatives to theater involvement.
“My Narrator” was written by Norm Foster, published by Canadian Playwrights, Inc. and “At The Beep” is the work of Steph DeFerie, Brooklyn Publishsers, LLC and both were chosen by Pintellos for their clever dialogue and exuberant characters. The two one-act plays will be presented in the company’s venue in Gilroy. Opening April 24th, the play runs for four weekends, through May 16th, at 8:00 p.m. There will be one matinee on Sunday, May 3rd. The show will be interpreted for American Sign Language on May 2nd, please email to set aside seating. Reservations and information here, or by calling 408-776-8004 or e-mail pintello@charter.net.
Produced by Rod and Marion Pintello, the comedy play is being presented in the Gilroy Grange Hall, 8191 Swanston Lane in Gilroy. The popular comedy troupe continues to present full-length comedy plays featuring local actors, comfortable table seating, coffee and cookies and their trademark friendly welcome.
