The newest comedy play is ready at Pintello Comedy Theater. It’s the story of Cindy and Hal Savage, a couple of poor struggling actors who decide to cash in on the Self-Help trend, becoming outspoken and enthusiastic speakers, world-famous authors and totally phony self-awareness gurus. Jump ahead seven years and there’s a naked body in the study, a detective in the garden, and a nosy reporter prowling on the second floor. Add a maid with a twitch, an annoying agent, and a spark of romance and you’ve got a side-splitting comedy.
This fast-paced adult farce from the Pintellos’ favorite comedic playwright, Canadian Norm Foster, carries the audience on a wild ride toward married bliss -- or public disaster -- for Hal and Cindy Savage.
That’s the premise of the newest play by Pintello Comedy Theater. “Self-Help” is the title, and it will be presented in the company’s venue in Gilroy. Opening February 6th, the play runs for four weekends, through February 28th, at 8:00 p.m. There will be one matinee on Sunday, February 15th. Reservations and information are on line at www.PintelloComedy, or by calling 408-776-8004, or e-mail Pintello@charter.net.
Produced by Rod and Marion Pintello, the comedy play is being presented in the Gilroy Grange Hall, 8191 Swanston Lane in Gilroy. The popular comedy troupe continues to present full-length comedy plays featuring local actors, comfortable table seating, coffee and cookies and their trademark friendly welcome.
In the first show of the new year, the Pintellos have cast an assortment of new actors and PCT veterans. As the on-again-off-again relationship gurus, leads Laura Glasspool and Jim McCann have plenty of stage experience. Ms. Glasspool was recently seen with the Campbell Theater Company, has performed with SVCT, and this is her fourth production with Pintello Comedy Theater. Jim has worked with Odyssey Theater Company in Gilroy and with SVCT in Morgan Hill.
Newcomer Barbara Smith plays the misunderstanding maid, and theater-owner Marion Pintello joins the cast as the aggravating agent for millionaire couple. The “double-Bills” (Bill Corneth & Bill Tindall) have proved to be popular actors in earlier shows, each returning after several earlier plays. “The characters are pretty zany and our actors are very strong,” says director Rod Pintello. “We’re all enjoying this playwright’s wit and knack for pointed humor. Marion and I love working with his scripts.”
Opening night will be Friday, February 6th with performances continuing Friday and Saturday nights through February 28th. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, February 15th. Information and reservations can be found here online, or by calling 408-776-8004. Or you can reach the Pintellos on e-mail at pintello@charter.net.
