A romantic comedy is Rod and Marion Pintello’s choice for the next production at their popular comedy theater in Gilroy. Opening on April 18th the newest show is called “A Gentleman and a Scoundrel.” As always, The Pintello family will be on hand to welcome patrons at their friendly table-seating theater in the Gilroy Grange Hall at
8191 Swanston Drive in Gilroy.

“A Gentleman and a Scoundrel” was written for the stage by Jack Sharkey, who also wrote PCT’s recent hit, “The Murder Room.” The new play features a tour de force performance by the lead actor, Kevin Heath, who plays both the “gentleman” and the “scoundrel.” He begins the show as Fred Dickson, a clerk in a financial bind, which even his boss – and sometimes sweetheart – Jenny Correll (played by Denee Lewis Bohnsack) cannot solve for him. Unable to get an increase in pay, Fred hits on the scheme of hiring himself as his own assistant, but in the disguise of Texan “Rick Laredo” so he can get two salaries for one job. Complications arise when Jenny falls head-over-heals in love with “Rick”, leaving Fred as his own rival for his girlfriend. Things grow even more complex when the company’s credit-check investigator (played by Jon Reed) discovers that Fred is banking double what he earns, and tries to ferret out the extra source of Fred’s income from “Rick” and Jenny. How Fred manages to foil the investigation, win Jenny’s heart and dispose of love-rival Rick make up the fast-moving plot of this hilarious romantic comedy.

Both actors Denee Lewis Bohnsack and Jon Reed are new to the Pintello Comedy Theater stage, but have plenty of experience on South Valley stages. Denee was last seen at Center Stage, and at San Jose State. Jon has been singing and acting with South Valley Civic Theatre and Lyric Theater. All three actors are enjoying the fun of working on a farce. “The rehearsals are more collaborative,” says director Marion Pintello. “In a sillier play like this one there’s room for the actors to play their parts more broadly so each actor can open up and ‘go for it’!”
